Sr. Ismahan Abdullahi is a UCSD graduate of Somali descent. She and her family escaped war-torn Somalia to have a life filled with opportunities in America in 1992. She has been an active part of her community since high school, in which she graduated as Valedictorian and pursued her dream of attending UCSD. Sr. Ismahan graduated from UCSD with a BA in Human Biology and a minor in Health Care and Social Issues and Middle Eastern Studies. She served as President of the MSA at UCSD and is active within MAS San Diego in varying capacities. After two years of working with Survivors’ of Torture as a contractor, Ismahan is currently working as an Eye Bank Technician with the San Diego Eye Bank. She is also currently serving as the Treasurer for the Islamic Center of Eastlake and is a member of the Board of Education for the Islamic School of San Diego. Ismahan’s passion lies in working with the youth and helping them to strengthen their relationship with Allah and retaining their Muslim identity.
